Back to the Bottle - Elijah Craig Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
Bottled at 94 proof, this is the spicier sibling of the Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon, and, like that bourbon, it's a solid, enjoyable sipper that does a decent job in an Old Fashioned cocktail. I wasn't sure about it at first but after some air, I ended up enjoying it and will certainly buy it again. If you like Kentucky-style rye whiskey, this is one you'll want to try. Of course, one of my favorites, Wild Turkey 101 Rye is 7 proof points higher and about $5 less per bottle but I think the trade-off might be a year or two of age and a sweeter overall whiskey but I'm not really sure about the age part but it feels like it might be more mature. Even its stablemate Rittenhouse is a few dollars cheaper, Bottled In Bond, and more widely available so it isn't a slam dunk to buy this one. If you're a rocks type of drinker or you want an approachable whiskey for new drinkers, this is one to try for sure. Cheers!
