Jackie Zykan is one of a handful of whiskey people I would really like to meet. If you like Old Forester whiskey today, you likely have Jackie to thank. She helped to transform an old brand into a modern player in a hyper-competitive whiskey landscape. She left Old Forester recently and partnered with Royce Neeley of the Neeley Family Distillery, and Nate Winegar and Matt Dankner of the 5280 Whiskey Society here in Colorado. With Royce handling the distilling and incorporating all the fun geekery we love - low barrel entry proof, sweet mash, more malt than typical, seasoned barrels, and unfiltered bottlings at a decent proof, we should love this bourbon, right?
