Open the Bottle - Old Forester Bourbon Single Barrel Select from Hazel's in Boulder, CO
I generally like Old Forester Bourbon. It's all solid in my opinion but of course, I lean toward what I think they call the Whisky Row Series (they don't use the 'e'), specifically 1897, 1910, and 1920. I've had quite a few of the store picks from back when they were all 90 proof and I always enjoyed them and thought they were a good value coming in around $40-45 most of the time.
This is a different beast altogether. 134.3 proof and unfiltered, it's hard to ask for more. At $80 it seems a bit pricey to me but then again, one of my favorites is Booker's for its uncut, unfiltered approach and it has gotten very hard to find at any price. When I do see them, they are bringing $100 to $150 and higher. So, maybe this is not such a bad price for what's in the bottle.
Speaking of what is in the bottle, let's get to it! Cheers!
